For our 7th box, marking our one year anniversary and the 2021 holiday season, we embarked on an unforgettable whirlwind trip around the world to explore holiday traditions from Jamaica, Poland, the Philippines, Kenya, Spain and more!
Mehandi Tutorial
Here's a quick how-to on applying mehandi (also called henna) for some festive Indian temporary body art. Mehandi is a natural plant product and fades away in about two weeks.
Meet the maker
Esther Kariuki is an independent artisan who, in her village near the town of Kitui, Kenya upcycles and transforms banana fiber materials into new art forms. She has organized and trained women of the village to create a sustainable livelihood using the resources available in an area that normally has little income opportunity.
Women in the villages in Kenya, near Kitui, are educated and taught the handmade craft of recycling the dried fiber of banana plants, which would normally be discarded. They use their talents to transform the banana fiber into new, eco-friendly art forms.
Torùn gingerbread
The city of Torùn in Poland is reknowned for its soft, fragrant gingerbread. Visit the Kopernik confectionary to see how it's made.
Holidays in the Philippines
The holiday season in the Philippines starts as early as September! Host, Jaric Lago, walks us through the top festive traditions.
